Co-founder and Advisor, The Australian Alliance for Inclusive Education- All Means All
Catia Malaquias is a lawyer, board director and mother of three young children, including a child with disabilities. She is an award winning advocate for human rights and inclusion of people with disabilities, including the right of children and young people to inclusive education.
Catia is a co-founder and advisor to All Means All – The Australian Alliance for Inclusive Education and was instrumental in the establishment of the Australian Coalition for Inclusive Education (ACIE) comprising disability organisations from around Australia. Catia also sits on the board of not for profit organisations including Down Syndrome Australia, the Attitude Foundation and Starting With Julius, which she founded.
Catia has won several prestigious awards in recognition of her advocacy, including an Australian Human Rights Award in 2018 and a National Disability Award from the Australian government in 2017.
Catia is currently undertaking doctoral studies on the topic of inclusive education and has co-authored several online resources, academic journal articles and book chapters in relation to education of children with disability. She is a frequent speaker at conferences in Australia and overseas and has also spoken at the United Nations in Geneva and in New York in several occasions. In 2015 Catia attended the Day of General Discussion on the Right to Inclusive Education at the UN in Geneva and participated in the development of the guidance document on the right to inclusive education under the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, General Comment No.4.
