Director for Education and Religious Affairs -Ministry of National Development Planning Indonesia
Amich Alhumami has been working with The Ministry of National Development Planning/The National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) since 1996, and is now the Director for Education and Religious Affairs. He holds a PhD degree in Social Anthropology attained from the University of Sussex, the United Kingdom (2011), and obtained respectively two master’s degrees in Cultural Anthropology from the University of Indonesia, Jakarta, in 1994 and in Education Policy from George Mason University, Virginia, USA in 2003. Before joining Bappenas, he was a research associate affiliating with the Jakarta-based two research institutes: (i) the Centre for Policy and Development Studies (CPDS) and (ii) the Institute for the Study of Business Ethics and Development Policy. He has conducted a number of research activities focusing on, among others, political economy of education, religious-Islamic activism, decentralization of education, political democracy, and other issues related to social planning and development policymaking. His publications include several books (as a contributor) and a number of articles published in academic journals and national newspapers.
